In July, 2020 number of Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne’s students and friends came together and formed a team (Prof LMVT Students & Friends) with the sole purpose of establishing a gold medal and a scholarship to benefit students at the Science Faculty, University of Colombo to honor their beloved teacher and friend, Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne.

For many of us, the undergraduate education became the pivotal point that shaped our professional career and our future. Similarly, each one of us can name a handful of teachers who inspired, motivated, and encouraged us to achieve the best. It is upon us to embrace and carry forward the legacies of these outstanding individuals. Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne (many of us lovingly call him with one syllable word, “Sir”) is such person for many us. He is an outstanding teacher, a profound leader, a visionary, and an extraordinary mentor. He has served the University of Colombo (UoC) in numerous capacities and after his departure from UoC, he continued to serve his alma mater through CUFSAA, a non-profit organization he founded in 2016 with the mission to unite all UoC Faculty of Science alumni across the US and Canada under a common purpose to support our alma mater. He has served and shaped the organization as its founder president for the first two years and continues to play a vital role as an active member of the current executive committee.

The team of former students of Prof. L. M. V. Tillekeratne planned and  successfully completed this project to honor and recognize his invaluable service and long-lasting impact through a scholarship and a gold medal. Each scholarship provides a need-based scholarship to one economically disadvantaged rising second year student. The recipient receives US $420 (Rs. 126,000) annually.

CUFSAA-NA received funds from the team (Prof LMVT Students & Friends) and provided the logistical support to establish Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne Gold Medal and Honorary Scholarship through the Science Faculty Board, the Senate, and the Bursar’s Office of the University of Colombo with support from Dean and the Head of the Chemistry Department.


Gold Medal Winners

  • Ms. DMTG Dasanayake – 2024 Gold Medal Winner
    The Faculty of Science held its General Convocation 2023 on 4th October 2024 at the Bandaranaike
    Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo. The Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne Gold Medal for Chemistry was awarded to Ms. DMTG Dasanayake at the convocation.
  • Mr. RANKC Ranawaka – 2023 Gold Medal Winner
    The Faculty of Science held its General Convocation 2022 on 6th September 2023 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo. The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor Senior Professor H.D. Karunaratne, Deans of the Faculties, Directors of Institutes, academic and administrative staff, and graduands and parents. The Professor L.M.V. Tillekeratne Gold Medal for Chemistry was awarded to Mr. RANKC Ranawaka at the convocation.
  • Ms. HMJC Dhanasinghe – 2022 (First Gold Medal) Winner
    At the General Convocation 2021 of the University of Colombo held on December, 10, 2022, the university has awarded the First GOLD MEDAL honoring Prof. LMV Tillekeratne, one of our most beloved professors.
